by Nazima Golamaully

There are certain basic factors that you must keep in mind when installing the ceiling fan. Most of the precautions described below may seem very obvious. However, there have been innumerable instances where people have messed up on these counts and have ended up damaging the wall and there ceiling fan beyond repair.

The first and the most obvious precaution is that there should be no obstruction in the path of the ceiling fan. This is a no brainer. Just switch on any ceiling fan and take a look at the speed of its rotation.

What is going to happen if something comes in the way of the blades? It is obvious that there will be a huge racket and there will be lots and lots of noise and damage. The motor of the fan is definitely going to be damaged and the blades shall be bent beyond recognition.

Further, the object that comes in the path is also going to suffer damage. Whether it is the wall or whether it is a cabinet door-you just have to make sure that there is absolutely no obstruction.

Another factor that you have to consider is the attraction between the rotating object and the stationary object if they come too close. That is a reason why there must be a gap of at least one and a half feet between the blade and any other object.

It does not matter whether the object is a wall or any other furniture item. This gap is minimum even if there is no risk of any obstruction or contact.

You might have noticed that the ceiling fan often swings on its base when there is wind in the room. The wind may be coming from the window or from any other room. In such a scenario, the gap of one and a half feet ensures that there is no accidental contact.

You will have to take adequate care that the wiring of the motor is locked in such a manner that it does not come lose and come in contact with the blades. Not only will the blade whip the wiring of its socket, there is a chance of the rubber and insulated protection being whipped off as well.

If this happens, the live wire will come in contact with the fan and this may cause severe damage to the component of the device. It is advisable to check out videos and other resources on the internet before installing the fan. Or, you could hand over the task to a professional.
