How to Rid Your House Plants of Insects
Every now and them our house plants may become infested with insects in-spite of our best efforts to care for them properly. Some of the more common pests that will attack house plants are, Spider Mites, Aphids, Mealy Bugs and Fungus Gnats. These insects are a problem and can do a great deal of harm to your plants if they are not controlled. There is good news though, getting rid of them is quite easy. Below I will explain how to get rid of these pest.
1.) Aphids are probably the easiest of the pest to get rid off. Just place the plant in the tub and hose it off with a gentle stream of water so you do not damage the plant. Repeat if needed.
2.) Spider Mites and Mealy Bugs can be killed with Isopropyl Alcohol. Pour some a cotton ball and gently wipe down the leave. It will kill the insects on contact. Treat the underside of the leaves also since this is where the spider mites will be found.
3.) Fungus Gnats will appear where there is high moisture and decaying matter for them to live on. One option here is to allow the plant to partially dry out at the surface and remove any decaying matter from the soils surface. Insecticidal soaps and Neem Oil are also effective in controlling insects if the problems are severe.
