How to Check Your Hard Disk For Errors in Windows XP
If you are starting to experience problems with your O.S., programs and or files, or just want to check your hard disc for possible bad sectors you can run the Windows Chkdsk. Chkdsk will scan your hard disc for bad sectors, cross-linked files directory errors and other potential problems and attempt to repair them if found. Running Chkdsk is a very simple process, but will take a little while depending on the size of your hard disc and the number of files stored on it. Below is a step-by-step process for running Chkdsk on your computers hard disk.
1.)Click “Start” , “My Computer” and right click on “C’. Select “Properties” the the “Tolls” tab.
2.)Choose the first option “Error-checking”.
3.) Select the two options presented. Automatically fix file system errors and scan and attempt recovery of bad sectors. Chkdsk must have exclusive access to a volume when it runs so it will prompt you and ask if you want to schedule Chkdsk to run nest time the computer is restarted. Select yes and if you’re ready, restart your computer. Chkdsk will run and if here were any problems found it will be displayed.
