How to Add Notes to Your Files and Folders

Do you find you have lots of files on your computer and have difficulty locating a specific one when needed without opening numerous others to locate it. Windows gives you a neat little option to help you simplify locating specific files faster. You can add comments in the properties dialog box and set Windows to display these making locating specific files much faster. You can even use Windows search function to loacte a specific file by the comments. Below I will explain how to do this.

1.) Start by right clicking the folder you would like to add the comments to. Select “Properties” and “Summary” In the comments box type in a specific description or notes about the file and click “Apply” and “OK”.

2.) In Windows explorer set your file view to details.

3.) Next right click anywhere on the shaded bar under the address bar and check “comments.” Now your comments you applied to the folders will be displayed in the details view making it easier to locate that specific file faster.

4.) You can also search for a file by the comments using the Windows search feature. Just type in the comment like you would any other file name and select the area to search. Windows will locate the file for you.
